Assignment Brief:

The assignment required that we explore the affordances of mediated communications in a community of our choosing. 


Research Outline:

Twitter users choose to follow various informative sources such as patients, health organizations, and health-related media (Himelboim & Han, 2013). Abundant studies on technological affordance have also focused on the role of Twitter promoting and transmitting health-related information among users. Taking cue from this background, we (a team of 5) explored how people who were affected by breast cancer (directly or indirectly) engaged weak-ties on Twitter in order to gain informational, emotional, instrumental or promotional support.
