Employee Engagement in Organizations
Class:
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Assignment Brief:
To identify issues and opportunities in CSR and offer solutions to remedy these issues.
Essay Outline:
Employees are the ‘strongest stakeholder ties’ to the organization. Yet, when it comes to CSR, the discussion pans out as the impact of CSR ‘on employees’ when in fact it should be ‘of employees’.
How can this view be challenged if the people (read employees) that comprise the organization are not held accountable for the CSR initiatives? Is it good enough if employees ‘do well by doing good’ when they ‘decide’ to do so? Employee engagement when done right can amplify the success of the CSR initiative.
CSR ought to be integrated with the HR role, not just in volunteering and co-ordination aspect, but ensuring that employees, the strongest stakeholder ties should deliver the success of the CSR activity through accountability. A business case for Mandatory CSR Employee Engagement does exist.
